WHAT IS CITIZENSHIP?

Citizenship is rights, privileges, and duties vested upon an individual as a citizen and member of the country and to which he/she owes allegiance and in turn, is entitled to its protection. It should be noted that citizenship can be revoked from a state to a citizen; on the other hand, a citizen can renounce it; in Italy this is allowed as long as a citizen has another citizenship or moves abroad. Furthermore, if every citizen has the right to request it, the State also has the right to reject the application. Furthermore, a citizen can also have dual citizenship and a citizen can also have no citizenship (stateless or Stateless in English)

IS IT NECESSARY TO ACQUIRE ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP?

It is not mandatory for a foreign citizen to have Italian citizenship; the foreign citizen is granted the right to request it even if obviously the Italian Republic (like any other country) has no obligation to recognize it.

WHICH ARE THE ADVANTAGE OF BEING AN ITALIAN CITIZEN FOR EUROPEAN CITIZEN

For a European citizen there are no great advantages; as the countries belonging to the European Community must recognize the same rights for all European citizens everywhere they live (welfare, Health care; business and job opportunities, school, etc); the real difference is only politic rights (every citizen can be vote and be elected only in his/her country)

WHICH ARE THE ADVANTAGE OF BEING AN ITALIAN CITIZEN FOR NON-UE CITIZEN

The non-European citizen, who acquires citizenship, therefore assumes all the rights that an Italian citizen has and obviously the related duties; however, the advantage is not so much linked to the freedom of movement that one would still have in European countries even with a residence permit, nor to the fact that it with citizenship is not necessary to renew one’s residence permit every five years; as for the rights in legal terms and freedom outside the European borders, and the possibility to count on the Italian consular network spread all over the world. HOW CAN I BE AN ITALIAN CITIZEN?

There are different circumstances from which we can obtain Italian citizenship:

1. From birth (or adoption) if one of the parents or grandparents is an Italian citizen

2. Through residence

3. Through marriage to an Italian citizen

4. For particular sporting or civil merits rendered to the country

WHAT ARE THE DOCUMENTS TO PROCURE FOR THE ITALIAN APPLICATION?

In order to be a citizen of Italy, one must provide the following documents:

1. Demonstration of Income Amount (last 3 years; if you haven’t paper but with Spid we can help you to get)

2. History of residency

3. Long-term residence permit or certificate of language proficiency( B1 level )

4. Birth certificate and Penal certificate translated in Italian and legalized

5. Family status in Italy

6. €250,00 contribution receipt and revenue stamp of €16,00

7. Personal documents (e.g. Passport, Identity Card, Fiscal Code, etc.)

8. SPID (if you haven’t Spid you can do it in our office)

WHICH’S THE PROCESS TO SUBMIT THE CITIZENSHIP APPLICATION?

Once this information has been collected, it is possible to submit the citizenship application through an online form; however the procedure is rather complex therefore it is strongly recommended to seek help from companies like ours. The form returns a document that must be sent to the competent prefecture, which, if everything is ok, will issue a protocol code called K-10; otherwise it will be necessary to investigate the reason for the rejection. In case of re-application, it is good to investigate because the reasons for the times could be completely formal, such as the lack of a document; the illegibility of a document; an expired document, etc. or reasons that can be easily overcomeAt this point the evaluation process begins which will last 2 years, exceptionally 3 years
